In a lot of writing, there’s a distinct tone of elitism.
“I only write fantasy, so…”
“Well, we don’t use that sort of juvenile language here.”
“You know, I’d enjoy your writing better if it sounded like C.S. Lewis.
The goal of my writing is to avoid that. I want it to be open to everyone, whether you’re a Tolkien fanatic, a philosopher at heart, or just someone looking for something fun to read. Yes, I’ll try to make you think – eliminating elitism does not eliminate the need for thought, kids – but I’m not going to write 7-line, SAT-word filled sentences about the nature of a pear.
